Phil has been painting professionally for over twenty years. His innovative and original style has led to numerous sales and many successful exhibitions. Not only has he earned an enviable reputation as an artist, but also as an amusing, knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher and demonstrator of encaustic art.
Phil has been involved in Art and design all his working life starting as a trainee Graphic Artist at the Road Transport Industry Training Board, a Chief Graphic Designer for The Leisure Circle Book Club, an Art Director for Avon Cosmetics and a Creative Director for a Sales Promotion Agency.
Phil started his own design consultancy in 1992, Lonestar Design, specialising in marketing communications and corporate identities. Phil now concentrates his time on his passion for encaustic wax art - a medium he thinks is under utilised.
Phil paints using coloured encaustic wax and various heating implements including hot air gun, hot stylus and hot plate. His paintings are bold and bright or soft and sensuous, demanding attention and challenging the viewer on a visual or emotional level to experience more. Phil says, his Raison d'Etre is “Passion!”
“This is not your Bluebell Woods, this is innovative, exciting and contemporary. It touches your soul, sometimes beautiful, sometimes a touch frightening, but never boring. Often you can see different images and feel changing emotions - so many pictures in one.”
Phil's subjects range from amazing abstracts, fascinating vibrant flowers to cityscapes plus a whole lot more... prepare to be amazed!
Phil is a regular exhibitor during Bucks Art Weeks. Also a qualified teacher, he has taught at Missenden Abbey and teaches encaustic wax art classes and workshops. Phil is a very popular demonstrator and lecturer giving talks and demonstrations to art clubs and societies throughout the Home Counties, Eastern and Southern England.
